MEASURE & INSPECT / CONDITION MONITORING

See condition changing before the failure becomes obvious.

Condition monitoring is useful when the railway needs more than a one-time inspection. Repeated measurements can show which vehicles or locations are changing and deserve attention.

In practice: watch how the railway behaves over time, then send technicians only where the data says something is changing.

TECHNOLOGY PRINCIPAL

IVM

Italy · Vehicle & wheel interaction monitoring

Wayside and onboard systems for wheel condition and wheel-rail interaction.

DMA railway technology logo

DMA

Italy · Integrated railway diagnostics

Trainborne and wayside diagnostics tied to location, history and maintenance software.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

Choose monitoring by what needs to change the maintenance decision.

IVM is strong for wheel and wheel-rail behaviour; DMA is strong for integrated trainborne and network condition measurement.

01

IVM SWAN

Wayside wheel-condition screening using acceleration-based measurement.

Best for: finding vehicles that deserve closer wheel inspection

02

IVM OCTOPUS

Onboard wheel-rail interaction diagnostics over repeated routes.

Best for: seeing dynamic behaviour and recurring locations

03

DMA Axle-Box Acceleration

Measure vibration responses from the vehicle as it runs.

Best for: track-condition and interaction screening

04

DMA Train Hunting Measurement

Measure unstable lateral vehicle behaviour.

Best for: vehicle dynamic investigation

05

DMA TrackSNet

Organize repeated diagnostic data into condition history.

Best for: turning measurements into maintenance priorities

HOW IT WORKS

Monitor → compare → trigger focused inspection.

01

Measure repeatedly

Collect the same type of condition signal over time.

02

Keep location and vehicle identity

Know exactly where and on which asset the signal occurred.

03

Find the change

Look for trends, anomalies or recurring hotspots.

04

Investigate only where justified

Use detailed inspection after the monitoring system gives a reason.

WHY THIS MATTERS

A trend can reveal deterioration earlier than a scheduled inspection.

Monitoring is valuable when it reduces blind inspection effort and creates an earlier trigger for targeted maintenance.

Before: condition is known only when somebody inspects the asset.

After: maintenance can see which assets are changing between inspections.

CBP'S ROLE

The product is only useful when it fits the real railway job.

CBP defines the condition question, chooses the IVM or DMA route, structures data ownership and reporting, and connects the monitoring output to a real maintenance action.

NEXT STEP

Need to decide what is worth monitoring?

Tell us the failure or maintenance problem you want to catch earlier. CBP will define the monitoring route before selecting equipment.
